Dr. Soell honored by Medical Society
Erwin F. Soell, MD of Iowa Park and Donald L. Bomer, MD were honored as the 2012 Wichita County Medical Society Distinguished Service Award winners at their annual banquet Saturday at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
Consideration for nomination and election to receive the award is based on outstanding service to the physicians’ community as well as service in the field of medicine.
Also, the nominee must have been a member of the Wichita County Medical Society for at least 25 years.
Dr. Erwin Soell moved to Iowa Park, and joined Dr. Earl Watson in family practice in 1961, after serving as a physician in the United States Air Force. He graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Internship and residency were completed at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis. Dr. Soell is Board Certified in Family Practice, plus is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians .
Dr. Soell has been President of the Wichita County Medical Society, Alternate Delegate and Delegate to the Texas Medical Association, President and Chief of Staff of the Wichita General Hospital.
While serving as a delegate to the TMA, Dr. Soell was president of the 13th Medical District. Dr. Soell was also instrumental in the creation of the North Central Texas Medical Foundation (NCTMF) and the Wichita Falls Family Practice Residency Program. He served as chair of the NCTMF for 5 years.
Dr. Soell retired from private practice in 1997.
Erwin Soell, MD is also very community minded for the North Texas area.
He served for four years on the Iowa Park City Council and served as the Iowa Park mayor for two consecutive terms (four years).
He served as chair of the North Texas Regional Planning Commission, chair of the North Texas Regional Planning Commission Health Advisory Commission and president of the Iowa Park Chamber of Commerce in 1985.
He is also a charter member of the Iowa Park Industrial Development Corporation.
Dr. Soell was selected as the Iowa Park Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen in 1987.
He also chaired the Iowa Park Home Rule Charter Commission in 2008 and was a charter member of the Iowa Park Community Development Corporation two years, 2003 to 2005.
Dr. Soell has been a long-term member of the Iowa Park Rotary Club and has served as its president and was elected its Rotarian of the Year in 1997.
Dr. Donald Bomer came to Wichita Falls in 1972. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, internship at Parkland Hospital in Dallas and Residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Mississippi. Dr. Bomer is Board Certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
He also served as a Major in the United States Air Force. Dr. Bomer has served as President of the Medical Staff at Bethania Hospital and the Wichita General Hospital, President of the Wichita County Medical Society and Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee at the North Texas Surgicenter, which he helped found. Don Bomer has been a member, longer than 30 years, of the Mavericks for promoting the welfare of Wichita Falls.
For the past 20 years, Dr. Bomer has been a board member of the Wichita Falls Boys and Girls Club.
The Wichita County Medical Society has been active in the Texas Counties of Wichita, Archer, Clay, Baylor and Knox since 1921.
