Trustees call election, extend
administrative contracts

by Dolores Hamilton
The rain and hail that fell in the area Tuesday afternoon finally let up in time for the Iowa Park CISD School Board to gather at the school administration office for its monthly meeting.

During the evening, school board members renewed the contracts of administrative personnel, called a trustee election, approved the school calendar for next year, and also took action of several other items on the agenda. A trustee election was called for May 9 to elect trustees for Places 1, 2, and 3 on the school board. The places are now held by Jeff Nolen, Kari Collins and Guy Traylor, who have all filed for re-election.

Jonathan Clubb told the board members that this would again be a joint election with the City of Iowa Park, with voters in both the school and city elections casting their ballots at Friendly Door Senior Citizens Center. Valley View will also serve as a polling place for voters in some of the school district’s precincts.

The proposed school calendar for 2009 - 2010 was presented to the board members by Greg Darden, chairman of the faculty committee that worked on the calendar. The calendar lists Aug. 24, 2009 as the first day of school, and homecoming is scheduled for Sept. 11.

The calendar was approved by the trustees and will be submitted to the Texas Education Agency for approval.

Superintendent Jerry Baird told the board that on this year’s school calendar April 10 (Good Friday) and May 25 (Memorial Day), are designated as bad weather makeup days. Because of the two days recently that Iowa Park students were out of school because of icy roads, they will be required to go to school on those two days.

Two interlocal agreements were approved. The first one included a cooperative agreement with Region 17 - Lubbock for food purchases, and Region 9 Education Service Center for supplies. The agreements make it possible for participating schools to obtain substantial savings through volume purchasing.

The second interlocal agreement is with the Wichita County Public Health District. It allows use of the school district’s facilities in the event of a public health emergency which may result from natural or man-made causes.

The firm of Edgin, Parkman, Fleming and Fleming were approved by the trustees to conduct the school’s audit for the coming year.

Tax Collector Jonathan Club reported on the status of tax collections for the school district, and the school’s business manager Sharon Godwin gave the financial and internal control report.

Following a closed session, the contracts of the following administrative personnel were renewed: Steve Moody, Assistant Superintendent; Richard Young, Iowa Park High School Principal; Darla Biddy,W.F. George Middle School Principal; Vickie Jordan, Bradford Elementary Principal; Debra Brandt, Kidwell Elementary Principal; Leilani Kesner, IPHS Assistant Principal; Tim Bartram, IPHS Assistant Principal.

Also, Greg Darden,WF George Middle School Assistant Principal; Tammy Beatty, IPHS Counselor; Janet Bowling, Middle School Counselor; Cari Dimarzio, Bradford Counselor; Vicki Adams, Kidwell Counselor; Chris Ellis, Athletic Director; Sharon Godwin, Business Manager; Jonathan Clubb, Tax Collector; and Mike Parchman, Technology Coordinator.
