Hamilton named Managing Editor

Publisher Dolores Hamilton announced this week that Kevin Hamilton has been named managing editor of the Iowa Park Leader.

Kevin has been sports editor and photographer for the Leader since August of 2004.

Dolores and the late Bob Hamilton, Kevin’s parents, began the newspaper in 1969.

Of his promotion Hamilton says, “I have big shoes to fill in terms of what Mom and Dad put into it. It’s quite an honor.

“We have recorded the history of Iowa Park and the surrounding area since 1969, and we take that responsibility very seriously,” he continued. “We are always striving to improve our capabilities and end-product.”

Hamilton began working for the Iowa Park Leader as a reporter and photographer in 1980 and moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in 1986.

During that time he worked for newspapers, including the Hood County News, as well as Radio Shack National Advertising, Texas New Mexico Power and Pinnacle Corp., where he was creative services manager for both companies.

An assistant art director at Radio Shack, he won a number of gold and silver ADDY Awards.

In addition he produced freelance designs for such companies as State National Companies, Southwestern Biomedical Research Foundation and First Choice Power.

Of his time away from the Leader, Hamilton said, “All of the skills I practiced in the metroplex – photography and design – lent itself to what we’re doing here.”

Since his return to the family business in 2004 to assist with family and newspaper responsibilities, Hamilton has been named Photographer of the Year and Journalist of the Year by the West Texas Press Association and North and East Texas Press Association, as well as several state awards in news and feature writing, photography and design, and a national award in advertising.

Hamilton said the biggest challenge he is facing is keeping abreast of technological shifts in terms of how it relates to community newspapers.

“We are always seeking ways to remain relevant and be an asset to the community and schools,” he said. “We will continue to explore avenues such as Facebook, Twitter, our website and other web formats.”

Hamilton is a 1977 graduate of Iowa Park High School, and attended Midwestern University. He has two sons, Brady of Fort Worth, and Dillon of Marion, In.
