Two more people filed this week to run for places on the city council, resulting in a contested race for two of the three seats up for election.

Hack Alexander filed to run against incumbent Sherrie Williams for Place 5. Jessalea Ricks Jones is challenging Tim Sheppard for Place 1, and Jeremiah Stevens is running unopposed for Place 3.

In the school board race, incumbent Merle Rodgers, Place 4, is running for re-election, and newcomer Ken Cooper, who is running for Place 5, had drawn no opposition at press time on Wednesday.

Deadline to file as a candidate in the city or school election is 5 p.m. tomorrow.
To file for a place on the city council, paperwork may be picked up at city hall from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applications to run for a place on the school board are available at the school administration office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The general election will be held on May 11.
