School election to be cancelled
by Dolores Hamilton
Candidates for the two places up for election on the Iowa Park CISD school board drew no challengers, making it unnecessary to hold an election this year.
The school board is expected to officially cancel the trustee election at its meeting tonight.
Incumbent Merle Rodgers will retain his seat on Place 4, and newcomer Ken Cooper will occupy Place 5, formerly held by Robert Johnson, who chose not to run for re-election.
The two will be given the oath of office in May.
In the city election there is competition for each of three places up for election.
Incumbent Sherrie Williams is being challenged by Hack Alexander for Place 5; Jessalea Ricks Jones and Tim Sheppard are running for Place 1; and Jeremiah Stevens, Carmen Lozipone and Keith Dyer are opponents for Place 3.
Early voting in the city council election and the election for alcohol sales in Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 will be held at city hall, April 29 through May 7.
Both city council and alcohol elections will be on one ballot for voters living inside the city limits. For voters living outside the city limits in JP Precinct 3, the alcohol sales election will be on a separate ballot.
On election day, May 11, votes may be cast at Friendly Door Senior Citizens Center.
