Hawk Band does it again
There they have gone and done it, yet again.
The 2011-12 IPHS Hawk Band earned a 29th consecutive Sweepstakes this past weekend, earning a superior or first division rating in both concert in the two portions of the UIL Regional Concert and Sightreading Contest at Wilbarger Auditorium in Vernon.
Those ratings, combined with a superior or first division this past fall in the UIL Marching Contest, earned Director Greg Miller and the Hawk Band a Sweepstakes, an extraordinary string of 29 years.
The three judges rated Iowa Park (1’s) straight across the board, similar to each of the five previous years for the Hawk Band. This year’s selections included Rough-Riders (K.L. King/James Swearingen), On a Hymnson of Philp Bliss (Holsinger/), and Joy (Ticheli/).
We were very pleased with their performance in both concert and sightreading,” Miller said of this year’s Hawk Band. “We received many compliments about their sound from others that were in attendance.
“We would especially like to thank the parents that drove to Vernon to support the band students,” he added. “It is always appreciated. Not only do the students notice the support, but the judges notice it as well. Iowa Park and the school district can be proud of the students’ efforts both on and off the stage.”
Miller has led in this exemplary streak of successful years for the Iowa Park band, assisted by Ed Hefti and Elizabeth Wetherbee.
