One more candidate in school election
by Dolores Hamilton
Before the deadline Monday for filing in the school and city elections, a race developed for Place 7 on the school board when Sharon Thompson filed to run against Jeff Rhoades for the two-year unexpired term. Both candidates are newcomers.
The incumbents have filed to retain their seats on the other three places that are up for election on the school board this year, and they remain unopposed. They are: Mark Kyle, Place 1; Greg Deather-age, Place 2, and Cary Waters, Place 3.
This year a bond election will also be included on the ballot.
In the city race, three candidates are vying for the position of mayor. They include Mayor Pro Tem Sherrie Williams, former council member Dan Fears, and Hack Alexander.
Incumbent Stephanie Wooten is being challenged for her seat on Place 2 by newcomer Kenneth Lee. Lori Shierry, Place 4, is running unopposed for her second term on the city council.
