Hawk Band earns 28th consecutive
UIL Sweepstakes Award
The IPHS Hawk Band last Tuesday performed in the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest in Vernon, picking up division I ratings in both efforts.
Combined with the division I rating the Hawk Band received this past fall in the UIL Marching Contest, Iowa Park earned Sweepstakes, the band’s 28th consecutive year of such an accomplishment.
The Hawk Band is under the direction of Greg Miller, and assistants Ed Hefti and Elizabeth Wetherbee.
“We were very pleased with the performance of the students both in concert and the sightreading room,” Miller said. “We received many compliments from directors from other schools that were in attendance as well.
“Overall, a really good day for the students,” he said, adding, “I would also like to thank those parents and others that drove to Vernon to support the students. The students may not say it, but they really do enjoy the support of their performances. It often gives them an extra little boost to perform to the best of their abilities.”
Miller also noted the contest judges were “quite complimentary of the band’s performance both on the stage and in the sightreading room.”
