More candidates file for city/school election

Two new candidates filed to run for office during during the past week, one for the Iowa Park CISD School Board and one for a place on the Iowa Park City Council. Monday was the filing deadline.
Ronald Cunningham has entered the race for school board and is challenging Cary Waters for the one-year unexpired term on Place 3. Incumbents Steve Fairchild, Place 6, and Mike Leamon, Place 7, are running unopposed.
Newcomer Brad Wynn has entered the city council race, challenging incumbent Dan Fears for Place 1. Mark Raby and Hack Alexander are vying for Place 3 which is being vacated by Ray Schults, and Sherrie Williams is running unchallenged to retain her position on Place 5.
In addition to the general election, the city council has called a special election to submit three propositions to voters for amending the city charter.
The general election will take place on May 14, with early voting beginning May 2 and ending May 10.
