Rhoades named to first team

Five IPHS Hawk athletes were named recently to the 5-3A All-District Basketball Team, in voting by conference coaches.

Junior Mason Rhoades was named to the First Team, and junior Cody Miller was named to the Second Team.

Honorable Mention players from Iowa Park included seniors Trace Cross and Sean Jackson, and sophomore Bailey Hale.

Top honors from 5-3A went to the two conference powerhouses, Hirschi and Burkburnett.

Hirschi, which advanced to within two points of winning the Region 1-3A final, was led by MVP senior Marcus Foster, and Co-Defensive Players of the Year Mack Sillemon and Devin Gilliam, both seniors.

Hirschi also had the Coaching Staff of the Year.

Burkburnett, which advanced to the Region 1-3A quarterfinals, was led by Offensive Player of the Year Elijah Strickland, junior.

Vernon junior Danny Valverde was named Newcomer of the Year.

Along with Rhoades, other First Team selections for 2012-13 include Bryce Reeves, junior, Graham; Chavaz Jackson, junior, Burkburnett; Torrence Cooper, junior, Hirschi; Terrence Cooper, junior, Hirschi; Mikey Freeze, sophomore, Graham; Justin Bell, junior, Burkburnett; and Jacobi White, senior, Vernon.

Second Team selections included Miller; Kenny Edwards, senior, Vernon; Arthur Hamlett, junior, Burkburnett; Matt Everson, senior, Burkburnett; DShan Harley, sophomore, Hirschi; Rico Shumpert, junior, Hirschi; Jake Graham, senior, Graham; and Janson Graham, senior, Graham.
