Incentives offered for upcoming
city-wide clean-up

by Dolores Hamilton
Iowa Park residents are being offered a special service that hasn't been available in several years - free dumping of trash for one day at the landfill on Smith Road.

Compliments of the Iowa Park Community Development Corporation (CDC), city residents can clean up their yards and garages, gather up unwanted items on their property, and dispose of it at Progressive Waste Solutions of TX (formerly IESI) from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.

In the past, the City of Iowa Park covered the cost of public use of the landfill during special clean up weeks. But as its budget tightened, the city had to drop the service. Wanting to bring back the city-wide clean-up event, last week the CDC board voted to cover resident's disposal cost for one day at the landfill. It will be called the "Clean & Green Clean-Up Project."

Residents who want to haul debris to the landfill (not to exceed one ton per resident) need to pick up an embossed voucher at city hall, where they will be available April 22 - 26. Pickups and pickups with a trailer may be used, but no commercial vehicles.

The city is seeking volunteers to pick up trash on that day in the public areas.

Anyone who wants to participate should contact city hall at 592-2131.

Guidelines and additional information will be provided in next week's issue of the Leader.
