Hawk golfers capture District 5-4A title

Iowa Park High School’s “A” Hawk team led in Monday’s third and final round at River Creek Golf Course to capture the District 5-4A golf title.
The five “A” Hawks combined for a 351 Monday and three round total of 1068 to win the conference title by 81 strokes over runner-up Burkburnett (369-1149). Vernon finished third (374-1195), Hirschi fourth (398-1289), and Iowa Park “B” fifth (456-1416).
Jarod Shepard carded an 85 (260 total) to capture the 5-4A medalist title, with second round leader Mason Bradberry shooting 95-267 for third place. Jacob Hawkins placed fourth (86-268), Jarod Brookshire seventh (89-281), and Dakota Trammel eighth (91-283).
Bubba Harris led the “B” Hawks with a final round 104, missing 10th place medalist and a chance to advance to regionals by seven strokes.
Other “B” Hawks competing included Dayton Poore 108, Andy Eastep 116, Hunter Fournier 128, and Colby Jackson 133.
For the Lady Hawks, Meghan Bradberry finished 10th place medalist with a final round 111 (361 total). Regan Bennett shot a final round 105 (331) total in the junior varsity division.
“I was very pleased with how well the guys shot as a team over the past three weeks,” said Coach Payton Jackson, adding that Hawkins, Trammell, Sheppard and Brookshire were on last year’s Hawk team that lost the title to Burkburnett in the final round by only two strokes.
“They had a goal of winning first place this year, and worked very hard to accomplish it,” Jackson remarked. “Adding freshman Mason Bradberry was a big contribution this year. The seniors had a very solid district tournament this year. They led the way most of the tournament.”
The Hawk players will compete Monday and Tuesday in the UIL Region l Golf Tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock.
