Relay for Life raises $53,000
Iowa Park’s Relay for Life kicked off at 5 p.m. Friday with 27 teams and over 400 relay team members participating in the event that raised $53,000 for the American Cancer Society.
The Cryovac team was top fundraiser, raising $14,000, exceeding their goal of $10,000, through their various events including their “jail” during the relay.
Following the opening ceremonies a survivor and caregivers dinner was held which featured a Luau Birthday theme. The meal was prepared by Sandy Lalk, the survivors committee chair, and family.
Numerous games, activities, entertainment gave team members and visitors a variety of things to do throughout the night and for those who worked up an appetite there were numerous booths offering food and drinks. For those preferring to shop, there were several booths offering jewelry, t-shirts and other goodies.
Those who were sleepy at 2 a.m. and needed to stretch, Jamie Fulfer had something to offer - A zumba workout.
The event wrapped-up at 5 a.m. and plans will soon be underway for the 2011 Iowa Park Relay for Life.
