Dyer edges Stevens in run-off for council seat

by Dolores Hamilton
The run-off election for Place 3 on the Iowa Park City Council was determined by a slim margin Saturday, as Keith Dyer defeated Jeremiah Stevens by 33 votes. Dyer received 213 votes to 180 votes for Stevens.

In early voting there were 225 votes cast, plus one by mail. On Saturday, 167 voters found their way to the polls at Friendly Door Senior Citizens Center.

In the May 11 city council election, three candidates were running for Place 3, Dyer, Stevens and Carmen Lozipone. Dyer received 582 votes, Stevens, 443, and Lozipone 173. Since none received 51 percent of the vote, it forced a run-off election between Dyer and Stevens.

The votes will be canvassed at Monday’s city council meeting and Dyer will be sworn in as the newly-elected council member.
