Mayoral runoff election Saturday
(6/21/12)

by Dolores Hamilton
The runoff election between Sherrie Williams and Dan Fears for mayor of Iowa Park will be held Saturday. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Friendly Door Senior Citizens Center, 810 North 3rd St.

With three candidates running for mayor in the city election on May 12, Fears received 460 votes (48.27%), Williams, 292 votes (30.64%), and Hack Alexander, 201. According to the city charter, a candidate must receive a majority or 51 percent of the vote to be elected.

Williams has been a member of the city council for seven years and is currently serving as mayor pro tem. Fears was a member of the council for 16 years, serving three years as mayor pro tem. He lost his seat on the council last year to newcomer Brad Wynn.

When early voting ended Tuesday, 223 citizens had taken the opportunity to cast their vote early.
