Food pantry low on inventory
(8/23/12)
The Iowa Park Food Pantry is in need of non-perishable foods for emergency food boxes.
According to the Food Pantry Coordinator, Cindy Jordan, there is not a food drive scheduled until September and the pantry doesn’t have enough food available to help for those in need until then.
The most urgent need at this time is canned meats, fruit and vegetables. The donated items should be canned food, so they will fit in the boxes, Jordan said.
Jordan said recently they had a day in which, before 10 a.m., there had been requests for help from five families in need of groceries.
The last couple of weeks First United Methodist Church members have donated fruit, meat and vegetables, which has been a big help, but more help is needed from the community.
Donations may be dropped off at First United Methodist Church or call 636-9756 and Jordan will pick up your donation.
“If everyone could help a little that will go a long way,” said Jordan.
“Anything to help the citizens of our town.”
Bradford Elementary is planning the September food drive, according to Jordan.
