IPHS Homecoming weekend is here

by Sherrie Williams
Homecoming weekend in Iowa Park will offer many activities for residents and visitors.

The activities start Thursday evening with a pep rally and continue through Saturday.

A pep rally will be held at 7 p.m. this evening in the high school gym.

Anyone interested in playing in the IPHS Homecoming Golf Tournament can do so tomorrow morning at 8:30 at River Creek Golf Course.

Call 592-5082 to register, and pay fees at River Creek when you arrive.

All Iowa Park school campuses will release students one and a half hours early Friday so students may participate/attend the parade.

Buses will run at that time.

It is not too late to participate in the Homecoming Parade.
You can sign up to participate in the parade until an hour before the event.
For more parade information contact Mrs. Myers at 592-2144.

The parade, carrying out the theme of “Candyland,” will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, in downtown Iowa Park.

Each float must have a theme.

Entry forms may be picked up at Iowa Park High School. Cost is $15 for floats and $10 for walking groups.

Friendly Door Senior Citizen’s Center will host its annual Homecoming Breakfast Saturday.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast will be served from 6:30 to 11 a.m.

The menu includes: pancakes, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, coffee and milk.

Alumni and the public is invited. Cost is $8 for adults; $5 for children 10 and under and seniors 60 and above.

Iowa Park Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Homecoming Whoop-T-Do starting at 9 a.m. Saturday downtown Iowa Park.

More information about the activities at this event is in a separate story published in this week’s edition of the Leader.

An alumni luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Saturday, for the IPHS Classes of ‘43, ‘53, and ‘63 at the Tom Burnett Memorial Library.

This luncheon is for members of these classes only and their spouse or caregiver. Reservations are required by calling Sue Bradberry at 940-592-4495 or by email at

Tickets for the Hawk/Bridgeport football game will be on sale Friday at the high school, during regular school hours.

Ticket prices are $2 for students; $4 for adults, or $5 at the gate.

The Hawk game will kick off at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium, in Wichita Falls.

The Homecoming Queen will be crowned at half time.

The Iowa Park Athletic Booster Club will be set up at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls, in the home parking area near the Sunrise Optimist Softball Complex starting at 5 p.m.

The booster club will offer hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks.

An “All Class Reunion” is also planned for Saturday at the Lakeside Ballroom in Wichita Falls, which is right next door to the Herb Easley lot off of Central Freeway. Doors will open for the reunion at 7:30 p.m. for those who leave the game early.

The event is BYOB and a DJ will provide music throughout the evening.
Anyone who attended school in Iowa Park, even those who moved and didn’t graduate, but would like to catch up with some old friends are welcome to attend.

The event is free. However donations to help offset some of the cost of renting the building and hiring a DJ and security are being accepted.
