Fish Fest this Saturday at Gordon Lake
Lake Gordon is closed to fishing through noon Saturday, for the annual Iowa Park Fish Fest which will be held from 9 a.m. till noon Saturday.
Fish Fest is free and open to children age 16 and under.
Approximately 1,250 pounds of adult size channel catfish will be stocked in the lake with the fish ranging in weight of a pound to a pound and a half.
Fishing equipment will be available for use for those who do not have their own. Also, free bait will be available.
The event is sponsored by the Texas Young Anglers.
Prizes consisting of sporting goods and fishing equipment and trophies will be awarded by age categories.
Prizes will be awarded for the first and second longest fish in three age groups: six and under; seven to 11; and 12 to 16-year-old.
There will also be randomly drawn prizes.
Also, souvenir trophies will be available to purchase with proceeds benefitting TJA and helps support the free event.
Texas Parks and Wildlife will set up a cleaning station and demonstrate proper cleaning of fish. They as well as City of Iowa Park Park’s Director Jason Griffin will clean fish for those who wish to have their catch cleaned.
Iowa Park Community Development Corporation is the title sponsor.
Event sponsors include: The City of Iowa Park, Iowa Park Optimist Club who will be grilling hot dogs donated by Lowes Market Place, Red River Optimist Club will provide cookies and members will staff the trailer provided by CocaCola.
Also, Iowa Park Masonic Lodge #713 donated chips and matched Coke’s donation of drinks.
El Sancho Mexican Food Restaurant is donating the hot dog condiments.
Sam’s Club donated a gift card for serving products.
