Local man killed Friday in truck/train collision

David Carlton Pace, Jr., 43, of Iowa Park was killed just after 10 p.m. Friday when his 2008 Dodge SUV was struck by a train at Johnson Rd. and W. Smith Ave.

The approximately 70-car train was traveling west at the time of the accident, and the railroad crossing arms were reportedly down and warning lights engaged at the scene.

The impact caused Pace’s vehicle to roll several times, coming to rest approximately 150 feet west of the intersection where the accident happened.

The east arm south of the train was down and did not appear to be damaged.

The lead engine of the train travelled almost to Harmony Road before it could come to a complete stop.

According to DPS, Pace was the only occupant in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by a local Justice of the Peace.

The accident remains under investigation by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), as well as Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.

The train track was closed temporarily due to minor damage.
