Thomas E. “Gene” Owens

Thomas E. “Gene” Owens, 79, passed away on Monday, January 12, in Wichita Falls.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 16, at the First United Methodist Church of Iowa Park, with Rev. John Kay, Pastor, officiating.

Private interment services will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home of Iowa Park.

Mr. Owens was born October 8, 1929 in Wichita Falls, to W.M. and Jessie Mae George Owens. He attended schools in Electra, Texas, and graduated from W.F. George High School in Iowa Park. He married Leverne Bentley on June 3, 1951 in Electra. He was self-employed for 66 years as the owner and operator of Owens Oil Company located at Faulks Station, between Electra and Iowa Park, retiring in December 1996. He was a resident of Iowa Park for 57 years, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Tokoi of Houston and Karen Spruiell of Iowa Park; two brothers, Don of Wichita Falls and James of Iowa Park; and five grandchildren.

Visitation with be at Dutton Funeral Home this evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Iowa Park or Friendly Door Senior Citizens Center.
