LouAnn Duke Huckaby

LouAnn Duke Huckaby, 73, passed away at home Friday, Jan. 11, in Taylor.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls.
Mrs. Huckaby was born Oct. 31, 1934, to Carroll and Georgia Lou Duke, in Iowa Park. She graduated Iowa Park High School, attended The University of Oklahoma, and received her undergraduate degree in speech and drama from Midwestern State University, where she was an award winning actress. She and William Ben Huckaby were married May 29, 1954, in Iowa Park. She taught school while he was a medical student, resident, and intern. The couple made their home in Wichita Falls from 1962 to 1995, when they moved to Electra. After his retirement, they moved to Taylor in 2004, to be near their daughter and her family. Mrs. Huckaby was active in the community and worked with Helen Farabee in the areas of metal health and mental retardation, volunteered with Red Cross, helped her husband during his tenure as Regent of Midwestern and was active in local democratic politics, was a member of Junior League, the 20th Century Club, and was involved with the schools her daughter attended.
Survivors include her husband; her daughter, Hannah Huckaby Kostka; a sister, Carolyn Brown; and a grandson.
