Bobbie Alton Birdett, 84, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, in Weatherford, where he had resided the past year.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Dutton Funeral Home with interment immediately following at Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Birdett was born Aug. 8, 1928 in Dublin, to Alton “Lefty” and Marie (McCarty) Birdett. He was a long time Wichita County resident. He attended schools in Dublin and Palacios, and entered the US Navy in Wichita Falls in 1946. He married Emily Faye Coen on March 6, 1948, in Wichita Falls. They were married 54 years, until her death in 2002.
Among other jobs, Bobbie was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos, N. M. from 1954 to 1959 and retired from Civil Service at Sheppard AFB in 1983. He and Faye were both active in the VFW and its auxiliary organization, the Military Order of the Cootie. He served as Supreme Commander of the MOC for 1984-85 and Supreme Quartermaster 1983-94.
Survivors include two daughters, Charl Roberson of Weatherford and Stephanie Birdett of Louisville, Ky.; a son Tom Birdett of Brownwood; a sister, Lela Mai Nolen of Howe; five grandchildren: and nine great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Friendly Door Senior Citizens Center of Iowa Park, Texas.
