1924 - 2013
Dottie D. Galyean, 88, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Wichita Falls.
Graveside services were held Monday in the Garden of Serenity at Crestview Memorial Park.
She was born in Winnfield, LA. March 9, 1924, to Edith and J.G. Dickerson. Dottie enjoyed learning and graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA., with a degree in education. In 1946 she married Kenneth Galyean and together they raised six children as they lived in Canada, Washington, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. In 1962 they moved to Wichita Falls.
She was a life-long educator and taught a total 45 years, 27 with Wichita Falls ISD from which she retired in 1989. She taught at Hirschi Jr. High, McNiel Jr. High and primarily at Fowler Elementary.
She was an involved member of Fairway and Faith Baptist Churches where she enjoyed singing in the choirs. She was also an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for many years. After retiring Dottie stayed busy traveling and enjoying the various activities offered by the Senior Group at Faith Baptist Church and AARP. She also taught Adult Literacy and volunteered at various schools including Alamo Elementary.
She is survived by her children, Mickey Galyean of Iowa Park; Sue Schabram and Kay Hitt, both of Wichita Falls, Bob Galyean of Arlington, David Galyean of Birmingham, AL and Pat Jones of Jakarta, Indonesia; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
