Larry Swinea
1935 - 2008
Larry Swinea, 72, passed away Friday, Feb. 15, in Wichita Falls.
Services were held Monday at Owens & Brumley Chapel with Rev. Robert Wright officiating. Interment followed at Crestview Mausoleum.
Mr. Swinea was born Dec. 25, 1935, in Olney to Amos and Etta Jo Swinea. He spent his childhood in Archer City. After several attempts to enlist in the United States Marines while he was underage, his mother signed for him to enlist when he was 17 years of age. After 20 years of services in the Marines, including two tours in Vietnam, he retired with the rank of captain. In 1977, he returned to Wichita Falls where he met and married his wife of 30 years, Norma. He retired after working 13 years at Burgess-Manning. He enjoyed doing home projects for friends and family and enjoyed taking RV trips with his wife.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Ryan James Simons, and Larry Wayne (Bubba) Swinea, Jr.; and siblings, James Dewitt, Paul, Lucille Wilson, Opal Juanita Hayman, and Goldie Mae Caldwell.
Survivors include his wife of Wichita Falls; two daughters, Darcy Simons of Phoenix, AZ., and Robyn Hoover of Iowa Park; a son, Larry Wayne of Arlington; two sisters, Oree Weaver of Lancaster, PA., and Nancy Jean Noey of Wichita Falls; a brother, Jesse Wayne of Drumright, OK.; and seven grandchildren.
The family suggest, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
