Maurice Edward Disselhorst, 73, of Palmyra, MO., a former Iowa Park, resident passed away Friday, Feb. 24, at the Medical Center Hospital in Odessa
.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Palmyra, Missouri.
Maurice was born May 8, 1938 in Palmyra,, MO., to Harvey and Frances E. Shanks Disselhorst. Maurice was married to Marie Riney on Oct. 22, 1960, at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer serving as a Radioman in the United States Navy. His service included a year of isolated duty in the Antartic at South Pole Station. Later, he worked for Northeast Power in Palmyra as a dispatcher from 1977-2000. He was a 1956 graduate of Palmyra High School and later attended Northeast Missouri State University. Maurice was a member of the Boots-Dickson Post #174 of the American Legion in Palmyra, the Golf Club Makers Association, and Jackson Park Golf Course in Palmyra. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra where he served as both Church Treasurer and Financial Secretary.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Wade Disselhorst; and a granddaughter, Jolleen Disselhorst.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sheri Kennedy of Iowa Park; sons: David of Alpine, and Douglas of Electra; a brother, Richard of Palmyra; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
