James Patrick Sewell
James Patrick Sewell died on February 5 in St. Catharines, Ontario Canada where he had lived since 1976.
A private gathering to celebrate Pat’s life was held in Plymouth, Vermont.
Pat was born April 5, 1930 in Iowa Park. He was the eldest of four children of James and Eunice Sewell. His grandfather, Rev. C.C. Davis, settled in Iowa Park in 1900.
After achieving his BA and MA from North Texas State University, Pat attended Columbia Teachers College in New York City. During the Korean War he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.
Following his stint in the Navy, Pat pursued his formal education, earning his PhD in Political Science from the University of California Berkeley. He taught international relations at Yale, Princeton, and Brock University, joining the latter in 1974. He was also a guest lecturer at Columbia, York, and Mount Holyoke College.
He was preceded in death by is son, Gunnar.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; a son, Bret of Atherton, CA.; a daughter, Thea, of Mountain View, CA.; two brothers, Michael of Iowa Park and David of Kingsport, Tenn.; one sister, Caroline Minter of Houston; and three grandchildren.
