1929 - 2013

John Timms, 83, of Iowa Park died Thursday, Feb. 28.

Memorial services were held Monday in the chapel of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Cantrell officiating.

A son of the late Louis and Mary Timms, John was born in Brownsville, PA., March 21, 1929. At age 16 John joined the United States Army Air Corps. He was one of the first twelve men to open Sheppard Field. He was a Drill Sergeant until he left the service in 1949 to join the Wichita Falls police force. He and Janelle were married on Feb. 1, 1957. She preceded him in death in 2011. When John left the police force, he went to work at Bethania Hospital and worked as the Director of Safety and Security for 29 years. He retired in 1988. After John and Janelle retired, they spent many years traveling across the U.S. They enjoyed “camping” in their RV, fishing, sight-seeing and visiting casinos. During John’s later years, he managed the Iowa Park Swimming Pool.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Pollard of Wichita Falls, and Stacie Fischer of Iowa Park; a son, Timmy Timms of Wichita Falls; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
