Elizabeth Mary “Betty” (Lewis) Copas, 84, passed away Saturday, March 11, in Iowa Park.
Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. today at Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Khoi Tran officiating.
Graveside services will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
Rosary was held Wednesday, in the chapel at the funeral home.
Betty was born on Jan. 8, 1933, in Brigus Junction, Newfoundland, as one of 13 children born to Stephen and Johanna (Meeney) Lewis. She married Perry Edward Copas, on May 11, 1957, at Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She was a Catholic who taught CCD for over 40 years and was instrumental in establishing Christ the King Church in Iowa Park. She received many awards from the diocese for her lifelong commitment and dedication to the Catholic faith. As an Air Force wife, she raised her family across the United States and Canada before moving to Iowa Park permanently when Perry was assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base in 1969. She enjoyed dancing and socializing, and spending time with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and two sons.
Survivors include her husband, Perry Copas of Iowa Park; daughters, Leora Aaron of Quanah, Carolyn Gibbs and Brenda Copas, both of Iowa Park; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family suggest memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, Alzheimer’s Association of Wichita Falls, and to Christ the King Catholic Church in Iowa Park.
