Norma Marie King Fortner

IOWA PARK - Norma Marie King Fortner, age 89, passed away April 17, 2016. The cause of death was a long and beautiful life lived to the fullest and heart disease.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 3:00 PM. Visitation: From 2:00 PM until service time in the chapel at Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park. Interment: Norma will be laid to rest next to her husband, Ray Lee Fortner, at Morris Chapel Cemetery, Bogata, Texas.

MEMORIALS: Norma loved flowers, but friends who wish to note the passing of this remarkable woman are asked to make a donation to Christ Haven for Children, 4200 Keller Haslet Rd., Keller, TX 76244, Friendly Door, or any of the other organizations that she loved.

Norma was born February 20, 1927 to Wilbur R. King and Emma Cravat King in Williamson County, near Austin. She graduated from San Angelo High School and married a handsome airman, Ray Lee Fortner, on December 23, 1944, who preceded her in death May 31, 1983.

Norma was a deeply devoted Christian, loving and generous mother, and talented artist. She was a member of Iowa Park Church of Christ for over 60 years. Norma is a former officer of Production Credit in Wichita Falls. All through her life, she was a volunteer. Some of her favorite organizations were Friendly Door (Director), Iowa Park Garden Club (President), Iowa Park Police Department, Komen Race for the Cure, Meals on Wheels, and Ronald McDonald House. She was also a member of the gallons club for donating blood to the American Red Cross. In 2002 she was awarded Senior Citizen of the Year by the Iowa Park Chamber of Commerce.

Sharon and Judy would like to thank the Wichita Falls Hospice nurses and aids, and Iowa Park Health Care Center, who were so helpful to Norma throughout her illness.

Predeceasing her in death were her love of life Ray; her only son, Larry Wayne; granddaughter, Diane Erickson; parents; brothers, Wilford, John Morris, A.C. and Lawrence King.

SURVIVORS: This remarkable woman will be missed by daughters, Sharon Cates; Judith and husband Michael Mitchell; grandchildren, Lisa and husband Kevin Smant; Jeffrey Fortner and wife Kristin; and Summer Fortner; great grandchildren, Ethan and Sophie Smant; Lexton, Logan and Colin Fortner; and Ahmya Fortner. Also surviving is her only sister, Virginia and her husband, David Cole of Hamilton, Texas.
