Milton McWhorter, 89, of Wichita Falls, passed away Wednesday, April 18.
Graveside services were held Friday at Restland Cemetery in Olney, with Pastor Larry Suttle of the 10th and Broad St. Church of Christ officiating.
Milton was born on May 19, 1922, to Jesse and Ruth (Ledbetter) McWhorter in Westover. He was a 1939 graduate of Olney High School where he was the band drum major. He graduated from Abilene Christian College with both bachelors and masters degrees. He also received a counselors certificate from the University of Texas. Milton served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot. During Milton’s early teaching career, he taught in the winter months and worked in Yellow Stone National Park during the summers. His teaching assignments included Olney. He was a principal at Clyde High School, and Fain Elementary in Wichita Falls. He was a counselor at Barwise Jr. High, Reagan Jr. High and Wichita Falls High School. He also studied Spanish in Mexico. Milton was a member of the Evening Lions Lions Club in Iowa Park and was a director of the Farm Bureau of Wichita County. He was a member of 10th and Broad Street Church of Christ.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James McWhorter.
He is survived by his wife Geneva of Wichita Falls and two sons, Mark McWhorter of Iowa Park and Tim McWhorter of Carlsbad, N. M.; and two grandsons.
