AlaVerta “Bertie” Mae Cyrus
1936 - 2017

AlaVerta “Bertie” Mae Cyrus, 80, of Wichita Falls, passed away Saturday, April 22.

Visitation will be held at Dutton Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Haws Road Community Church (formerly the Cowboy Church of Iowa Park.)

Graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday.
Bertie was born on Sept. 27, 1936, in Washington Court House, OH., to Weltha and Lang McKnight. She resided there until on Oct. 12, 1953, when she married James “Jim” Cyrus.” In Oct. 2014, they celebrated their 61st Anniversary. After graduating from the LVN program at Bethania, she received her RN from Midwestern State University. She was employed as a Critical Care nurse at Bethania Hospital.

Survivors include her son, Steven Cyrus of London, England; four daughters: Sheryl Kingcade of Iowa Park, Sandy Thompson of Carrollton; and Barbara Cyrus and Jaymie Nix, both of Wichita Falls; brothers, Frank McKnight, and Lang “Bub” McKnight; sisters, Bernice Pepper, Behulah Howard, and Virgina “Jenny” Glover; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Lang and Weltha McKnight; the grandparents who raised her, Charles and Lovinnia Welch; a great-grandson, Hunter Salas; a brother, Charles McKnight; and two sisters, Shelba McKnight and Mary Pepper.

Any memorials may be placed with Hospice of Wichita Falls in Bertie’s name.
