Joni Carter Peden

Joni Lynn Carter Peden, 55, of Henrietta died Sunday, April 26, in Wichita Falls.

Services were held Wednesday in the Davis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Miller, pastor of Henrietta Cowboy Church officiating. A graveside service was held in Highland Cemetery.

Mrs. Peden was born Nov. 10, 1953, in Wichita Falls to Billy Jo and Mickey (Willis) Carter, of Iowa Park. She graduated Iowa Park High School in 1972. She later graduated Hardin-Simmons University, where she earned her teaching certificate, which was signed by J.W. Edgar, the State Commissioner of Education. She and Danny Ray Peden were married Nov. 29, 1991 and they settled in the Joy Community. She had a teaching career that spanned 28 years and included Midway, Burkburnett, Iowa Park, and Bowie. She was named Educator of the Year in Iowa Park. in 1986. At the time of her death she was a special education content teacher at Harrell Accelerated Learning Center.

Survivors include her parents; her husband; two sons, Billy Glen Whitis of Iowa Park and Ricky Peden of Wichita Falls; a daughter, Shelia McCallister of Sun Ray; and two grandchildren.
