Veda Lois Campbell
1927 - 2016

Veda Lois Gatewood Campbell, 88, passed away Monday May 2, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Graveside services were held Saturday May 7, at Smith Bend Coon Creek Cemetery in Clifton, under the direction of Marshall & Marshall Funeral Home in Whitney.

Lois was born on Nov. 1, 1927, in Shawnee, OK., to Ellis and Tressie Thompson Gatewood. On Aug. 7, 1948, she married Fred Knox Campbell, Jr. in Henrietta.they were married 57 years, until his death in July, 2006.

The couple lived in Wichita Falls, followed by Iowa Park, Fort Worth, and Lake Whitney. Lois worked many years at Metz Cafe in Iowa Park. Lois was a member of Lake Whitney Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, tending to flowers, reading, and writing. She had been a member of TOPS in Ft. Worth and volunteered for the Whitney Meals on Wheels. She also was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Michael Ellis Campbell; her parents; sister, Wanda Pearce; and brother Leonard Gatewood.
Survivors include her daughter Gay Williams of Iowa Park; sons, Fred Knox Campbell III of Whitney, and Mark K. Campbell of Weatherford; sister Patsy McElhaney; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
