Evalyn May White
Evalyn May ”Mae” White, 97, returned to the Lord and her husband, Dr. Travis A. White, on June 3, 2007,while residing in the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Center.

Evalyn was born on May 11, 1910 in Dighton, Kansas to Frank and Grace Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) VanKeuren. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00AM, Friday, May 8, 2007 at First Christian Church with Dr. David Hartman officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Lunn’s Colonial Funeral Home.

Evalyn, her younger sister Irene Gertrude, parents and grandparents moved to San Antonio, TX in1920. In 1929 she entered Texas Christian University as a music major. Her BA degree, however, became what she called her “Mrs. Degree” on August 11, 1931, when she married Travis Alden White in Ft.Worth, TX. Over the next 70 + years Evalyn was a dutiful and loving minister’s wife and mother to Travis Albert, Frank “Ned” Nelson and Diana Sue White. During these years she studied and played music ,especially, church music. She aquired, over 5,000 volunteer hours at the Wichita Falls State Hospital. She, also, expressed her creativity in beautiful oil paintings. Evalyn is preceded in death by her husband in 1990 and her sister in 1999. She lost her son ”Ned” in 1955 at the age of 16, to acute lymphatic leukemia.

She is survived by son; Travis Albert White MD and wife Johnnie Ruth of Lubbock, TX, Diana White Collins and husband Doug of Iowa Park, TX. 5 Grandchildren; Travis Alan and Peter John White, Lisa Kay (White) Hawes, CTI James Douglas Collins-US Navy, Elizabeth Ann Collins and 5 great grandchildren; Travis Austin, Laura Ann, Kelley, Taylor and Symon White are charged with carrying on the family name and heritage.

Memorials may be made to Brite Divinity at TCU, the Volunteer Services of the North Texas State Hospital or Barton College General Scholarship Fund in Wilson, NC
