Samuel Jackson Fairchild, Jr.
Sam Fairchild, 75 passed away Tuesday, June 24 in Wichita Falls.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 27, at Faith Baptist Church in Iowa Park with Rev. Dennis Neal officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.

Mr. Fairchild was born August 31, 1932 in Quitaque, Texas to Ann and Samuel J. Fairchild, Sr. He and Marye Lou Hawkins were married January 18, 1952 in Vernon, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 where he was stationed at Ft. Mead, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Walter D., A.L., Kenneth E. and Joe D. Fairchild.

Sam worked for Luther Shaw after moving to Iowa Park where he learned and mastered the trade of a paint and body man. Shortly after that he opened Sam’s Body Shop which he operated for 35 years. He proudly received his GED at the young age of 65. Sam was elected Constable for Precinct 3 which he served for one term.

Sam enjoyed a good western, the Dallas Cowboys and Hawk football. He would seek out good barbeque joints and would eat fried catfish for lunch and dinner. After retirement, he quickly settled in with the morning coffee drinkers at the Cedar, having his cup topped off by his favorite waitress. He never passed up a challenging game of dominos.

He treasured his “Honey” and family. His job of taking care of them was the thing that brought him the most pleasure in life. He left us with countless good memories. These memories are most precious to us. We will miss him dearly.

Survivors include his loving wife “Honey” of 56 years; sister, Edith Box of Bowie; nieces and nephews, Bill and Brenda England, Rick and Linda Frazier and their children, Amanda Carr and Kevin Frazier, Marye Cates and her daughter Shelbye Boren, Steve and Darlene Fairchild and their children Ross and Erin Fairchild all of Iowa Park. He will be missed by many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Memorials in his honor may be made to the Faith Baptist Church Building Fund, 411 South Wall, Iowa Park, Texas 76367.
