Helen Florene Due Champion, 94, of Grandfield, OK., passed away Thursday, June 20, in Lawton, OK.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Grandfield Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Tim Owens, pastor of First Baptist Church of Grandfield officiating.
Mrs. Champion was born March 1, 1919, in Grandfield, to Ralph L. and Emma Bolton Due. She grew up in Grandfield amd attended school there. She and Charles Champion were married Dec. 4, 1937, in Walters, OK. He preceded her in death April 15, 1984. She lived in the Grandfield area all of her life and was a farmers wife. She enjoyed spending time volunteering, at the Grandfield Senior Citizen’s Center, where she was named Volunteer of the Year in 1985 and was a board member. She also enjoyed quilting with friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a Hospitality Committee member.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Lester Leroy Due, Cletus Due, Noel Due, Marion Due, Gerald Due, and Harvey Due; and four sisters, Mary Josefy, Wilma Hill, Ruth Castleman, and Jessie Jenkins.
Survivors include a son, Gary Champion of Comanche, OK.; two brothers, L.D. Due of Grandfield, and Earl Due of New Orleans, LA.; a sister, Janice Latimer of Iowa Park; two grandchildren; a step-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
