Margie Lee “Mert” McDonald

Margie Lee “Mert” McDonald passed away on Monday July 31, 2017. She was 95 years old.

According to close family, Mert was born on March 10, 1922, in McLean, Texas. She grew up in Iowa Park and graduated from Iowa Park High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Warren Crawford McDonald; father and mother, Oscar Eugene Lochridge and Lottie Denny Lochridge; and her brother Hugh Oscar “Bubsie” Lochridge.

She attended college at Texas State Women’s College in Denton Texas until deciding to marry shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. She lived most of her adult life in Dallas, Texas where she raised her family. Mert was known for her strong character and unwavering courage. She approached life intensely and with great love. She was an incredible cook, wonderful seamstress, world traveler, and a beautiful woman with an amazingly creative spirit.

She is survived by her daughter, Leslie McDonald Wilkins; sons Don Ray “Butch” McDonald and Michael Todd McDonald; her two grandchildren Kelly Lee O’Donnell and Trever Todd Harrison; and her two great-grandchildren Alicia Lee Ospina and Ian Antonio Ospina.

Services will be held at the Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017.
