Rowena Bacon Kalenak Miller Rice
1921 - 2015

Rowena Bacon Kalenak Miller Rice, 94, passed away Sunday, August 16, in Wichita Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Saturday at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Bill Lockwood, Iowa Park Church of Christ, officiating.

Graveside services will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Rowena was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Kawkawlin, MI., to John and Rowena (Schmidt) Bacon. She was a WWII veteran of the US Army, one of the oldest surviving WAC’s. She overcame many illnesses in her lifetime and survived to author a book at the age of 92, telling the stories of her lifetime. She enjoyed animals, raising Emu for several years in Iowa Park.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Andy Kalenak, Paul Earl Miller, and Gene Rice; an infant daughter; and two sons, Dewey Miller, Sr. and Kenneth “Stub” Kalenak.

Survivors include her sons, John Kalenak of Louisville, KY., Gene Paul Miller of Burkburnett, and Raymond Miller of Lakeside City; two brothers, Ralph Bacon of Nutting Lake, MA., and John Bacon of Auburn, MI.; one sister, Ann Machelski of Auburn, MI.; stepchildren, Nadine, Paul, and Joyce; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
