Gary Lyles
1940 - 2013

Gary Lyles, 72, passed away Wednesday, September 4, in Wichita Falls.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Faith Baptist Church in Iowa Park, with Rev. Dennis Neal officiating.

Burial followed in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.

Gary was born Oct. 15, 1940 in Littlefield. He lived in the Wichita and Archer County areas all of his life. He married Gayle Hart on Oct. 26, 1963, in Hallsville.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kamay, where he served as a deacon.

He was the first Cowboy mascot for Hardin Simmons University and held a degree in theology and teaching. He taught school for 24 years, with the first year in Valley View and retired from Iowa Park CISD after 23 years. He taught building trades and through the school built houses in Iowa Park. Gary enjoyed the outdoors, riding horses and ranching, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Lyles, and a brother, Mike Fox.

Survivors include his wife, Gayle (Hart) Lyles; a daughter, Cindy Lyles of Iowa Park; a son, Scott Lyles of Iowa Park; mother, Opal Lyles of Wichita Falls; four sisters, Virginia Brown, Jo Harden, Pattye Graham and Cheri Diprey; brother, Dewayne Fox; seven grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials be made to Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park Building Fund.
