Irby Mayo
1938 - 2007
Irby Mayo, 68, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, in Bowie.
Services were held Tuesday at Southside Baptist Church with Tommy John Mayo officiating. Burial was held in Elmwood cemetery.
Mr. Mayo was born Nov. 17, 1938, in Bellevue, to Claude Estil and Vesta Lee (Lipe) Mayo. He played basketball for Bellevue High School and graduated in 1957. After graduating he worked along with his dad and uncle in their trucking company and later worked for Coca-Cola Company in Wichita Falls. He and Jessie Johnson were married Feb. 9, 1967. He became a partner in the Bowie Locker Plant, and in the 1970s worked at A.M.P.I. in Windthorst until his retirement. He played bass guitar for the Raymond Edwards Band and enjoyed sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.
Survivors include his children, Virginia Wilson of Joy, Kyra Noetzelman of Bowie, Rhonda Sanders of Iowa Park, and Jackie Croxton of Arkansas; two brothers, Wendell of Big Spring, and Charles of Wichita Falls; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
