Rodney Preston Saunders, 91, of Iowa Park passed away on Thursday, Sept. 1.
Graveside services were held at Crestview Memorial Park Saturday, under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
Rodney was born on April 3, 1926, in Wichita Falls to Rodney Anderson Saunders and Anna Beatrice Kerschner Saunders. He attended Wichita Falls High School and Hardin Junior College in Wichita Falls. He joined the Marine Corps in 1946 and re-upped in the Marine Corps Reserves in 1949. He and Alice Irene Culbreath were married in 1950. She passed away in 1982. His career was in insurance and bonds sales and was the consummate salesman. He loved dogs and made it his job to rescue strays and find them homes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Saunders; an infant daughter, Tracy Annette; his father, Rodney and stepmother, Evelyn Saunders; and mother, Anna Beatrice Kerschner Muelberger.
He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Saunders, Sally Saunders Detzel; a son, Rodney Saunders, Jr.; brothers, Bob Saunders of Byers, and Thomas Saunders of Wichita Falls; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
The family suggest donations in Rodney’s memory be made to The Friendly Door, 810 North 3rd Street, Iowa Park, Texas.
