Maxie Lee Collins, Sr.
1938 - 2014

Maxie Lee Collins, Sr., 75, of Electra, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, in the Electra Memorial Hospital.

Services were held Monday, at the First Baptist Church of Electra with Roger Sanford, pastor of the Electra Community Church, officiating. Interment followed in Electra Memorial Park under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.

Maxie was born Oct. 25, 1938, in Sulphur Springs, to the late Bob Collins and Lucy Louise Hill Collins. He and Jan Gee were married Feb. 18, 1984, in Electra.

He was a police officer in Wichita Falls and also at Midwestern State University for several years. He moved to El ectra in 1972 and was employed at Natco until his retirement in 1999. In 1986, he started the Punkin Center Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief for twenty years. He was a member of the Chuck Wagon Gang and served as a volunteer EMS. He attended the Electra Community Church. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Collins on Oct. 3, 1993; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Michelle MacMillan on Aug. 6, 2006; and two sisters, Jessie Culp and Margie Price.

Survivors include his wife, Jan of the home; two sons, Maxie “Sonny” Collins, Jr. and Kevin Wayne Moerbe, both of Electra; four daughters, Tammie Foster of Iowa Park, and Cathy Smith, Carolyn Gossett, and Tracey Moerbe Schlegel, all of Electra; one sister, Mary Lufkin of Sulphur Springs; one brother, Troy Collins of Iowa Park; 12 grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Punkin Center Volunteer Fire Department, 5484 SH 25 North, Electra, Texas 76360.
