Jane Cowley
1933 - 2008
Jane Cowley, 75, of Sulpher Springs, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
Visitation will be held this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Sulpher Springs, with Rev. Russell Floyd and Rev. Debbie Riggsby officiating. Burial will follow in at Tira Cemetery.
Mrs. Cowley was born Sept. 23, 1933, in Hopkins County, the daughter of Brice B. and Lois Garner Rawson. She and J. Harold Cowley were married Sept. 3, in Longview. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration from East Texas State Teachers College and her Master of Science in Library Science from East Texas University. She was a teacher and librarian, retiring after 35 years of service in Harrold, Valley View, Iowa Park, and Talco-Bogata school districts. During her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, playing bridge and 42. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs where she served on the ARC Library Committee and in other volunteer roles.
Survivors include her husband; a son, James Brice of Brashear; a sister, Elizabeth Steinsiek of Sulpher Springs; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
