Andrew Newton Arrington
1923 - 2007
Andrew Newton “Andy” Arrington, 84, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Raines County.
Memorial services were held Saturday at First Baptist Church of Iowa Park with his grandson, Josh Arrington, and Rev. Glen Pearce, officiating. Services were under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
Mr. Arrington was born July 25, 1923, in Chidester, AR., to Stevens Harmon and Laura Louise Tribble Arrington. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He and Almeda Ewing were married Aug. 3, 2002, in Iowa Park. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years. He was a gunner on B24 and B17 bombers in the 8th Air Force, flying bombing missions over Germany during WWII in 1944 and 1945.
He also served during the Korean Conflict. His hobbies included playing checkers and dominoes, and hunting and fishing. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked in civil service as a helicopter mechanic at Sheppard Air Force Base.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve of Prosper, and Paul of Iowa Park; a daughter, Karen Huff of Plano; two stepsons, Dennis Mensell of Portland, and Roger Mansell of Mesquite; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Elsey of Edgewood; seven grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and step-great-great-grandchildren.
