Thomas A. Doyle, Jr., 85, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, at Universal Hospice House in Fort Worth.
Memorial services were held Saturday at Haltom Road Baptist Church. Burial was held in Bellevue Cemetery.
Mr. Doyle was born Aug. 12, 1922, in the Charlie, Thornberry Community, to Doyle, Sr. and Nellie Mae Doyle. He lived many years in the Iowa Park and Burkburnett area and retired from Ciba-Geigy Co., before moving to Arlington. He later retired from the Arlington School District maintenance department. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Terry, which provided support for the Battle of Iwo Jima. He enjoyed attending the annual Iwo Jima reunions. His hobbies included working in the yard and growing unusual things, such as banana trees, which he was well known for. He and his wife also traveled and had visited every state in the United States. They retired their motor home and began traveling with their church group at Haltom Road Baptist Church, where they were active members.
Survivors include his wife, Gwenna Mae; a son, Richard and his wife Rebecca of Fort Worth; a daughter, June Lane and husband Bill of Iowa Park; grandchildren, Kristi Lane of Iowa Park, and Brandon Lane, and his wife Cara of Wichita Falls, Christopher - US Navy in Jacksonville, FL., Alex Doyle of Fort Worth, and Kimberly Eddins of Dallas; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Bethany, Brooklyn, and Jordan.
