Maxine V. Payne
1924 - 2014

Maxine V. Payne, 90, of Wichita Falls passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, at the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.

Interment followed in the Veterans Garden of Crestview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Payne was born March 19, 1924 in Lueders, to George F. Vaughn and Mamie (Smith) Vaughn. She worked as an aircraft mechanic along with her twin sister, Corrine, during World War II. She also worked as a beautician and owned her own shop. She married Jesse F. Payne on May 11, 1947, in Lueders. They moved to Sheppard Air Force Base in 1959 where she was a homemaker and mother. She was an active charter member of Eden Hills Baptist Church. She was in charge of the church nursery for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 60 years, Jesse F. Payne, U.S. Air Force, Major (Retired); a son, James F. Payne; and two sisters, Corrine Cox and Odessa Johnson.

Survivors include her children, Michael V. Payne of Wichita Falls, William H. Payne of Missouri City, and Penny L. Mattos of Iowa Park; a brother, Orlan ‘Bo’ Vaughn of Yuma, CO; four grandchildren; and eight-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Royal Estates Activities Fund, 3908 Kell Blvd., Wichita Falls, TX 7630.
