David Boyd Sr.
David Boyd Sr., 68, the father of former Iowa Park resident, Lynnie Boyd, of Wichita Falls, died Saturday, Nov. 17, in Wichita Falls.
Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Hoa Nguyen officiating. Burial followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Rosary and Christian Wake were held Tuesday.
Mr. Boyd was born July 2, 1939 to Timothy L. Boyd and Estelle (Horn) Boyd, in Byers. At the age of 13, he went to work for Bethania Hospital in Wichita Falls, where he met his future wife, Mary Lynn Owens. They were married July 20, 1961. Prior to graduating Wichita High School in 1957, he joined the United States Marine Corp., earning medals in Sharp Shooting and Pistol Range. After his tour of duty he attended Midwestern State University. He retired from PPG after 25 years of service.
After a brief retirement he went to work as a machinist at Kalco Machine and Manufacturing. He enjoyed volunteer work and volunteered for Hospice, and worked on projects for St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and received the honor of “Elk of the Quarter.” He was also a member of Men ESA. He earned his pilot’s license in 1967, and enjoyed flying. He was especially fond of Christmas and was known to many as Santa Clause, including at Iowa Park Friendly Door Senior Citizen’s Center, where he visited the seniors several years. He enjoyed hunting, camping and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and a daughter, Deborah Christine Boyd.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lynn; a son, Tim of Fort Worth; a daughter, Lynnie of Wichita Falls; his father, Tim L. of Wichita Falls; four brothers, Jimmy of Wichita Falls, Jerry Don of Gillette, Wyo., Jacky Lynn and Thomas “Buddy”, both of Whitesboro; sister, Doloris “Sissy” Howard of Wichita Falls; and three grandchildren
The family suggest memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, Iowa Park Friendly Door Senior Citizen’s Center, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
