Velma Jean Batey
1933 - 2015

Velma Jean Batey, 81, of Cedar Rapids, IA., formerly of Iowa Park, died Thursday, Dec. 3.

Velma was born Dec. 15, 1933, in Cedar Rapids to James Wesley and Agnes Frances (Doupnik) Rissmiller. She graduated from Wilson High School. She was married to Charles Leo Batey on Oct. 29, 1955, in Jeffersonville, Ind. They were later divorced. Velma worked as a Wal-mart associate for 22 years until her retirement in 2006. She enjoyed crocheting blankets for all of her great-grandchildren, watching her favorite TV shows, and chatting with people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Raymond Dean Rissmiller; and her beloved teacup chihuahua, Precious.

Survivors include her daughters, Vanessa May of Des Moines, IA., and Christine Moser of Center Point, IA.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials in Velma’s name may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
