Dexter “Trapper” Parnell
1941 - 2015

Dexter “Trapper” Parnell, 74, a former Iowa Park Police Officer, passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, in Wichita Falls.

A wake service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Parnell was born Sept. 13, 1941, in Electra to Tom and Bennie Parnell. He grew up in Wichita Falls and graduated Wichita Falls High School in 1960. He was a founding member of the Red River Renegades and enjoyed crocheting items for cancer patients. He was an avid fisherman and carved knife handles and walking sticks. He worked for the City of Wichita Falls for 13 years in the Traffic Engineering Department, before entering law enforcement. He served as a police officer in Iowa Park and then Clay County Sheriff’s Department for many years ending as Chief Deputy of Clay County. He ended his working years driving a cab. He moved to Lake Arrowhead in 1980. He and Ernesta Samsill married July 2, 1960.

Survivors include his wife of Lake Arrowhead; a son, Ed Parnell of Holliday; a daughter, Charlotte Thompkins of Wichita Falls; a brother, Mac Parnell of Stockton, CA.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
