I’ve had many disappointments in my life.

My failure to convince IESI to sponsor my luge team with Mount Trashmore as our home base.....when Keebler discontinued “Heyday” cookies., which were my personal favorite......the fact that Kinky Friedman is not our governor....w hen I have to announce that the “SPAM I Am” Cookoff has been cancelled.

It is now the SPAM I Am Not cookoff.

People just didn’t enter. Possibly due to the prospect of cooking a gelatinous-covered block of meat in 100-degree weather while standing on asphalt.

Possibly because SPAM can be difficult to look at in any weather.

The money raised by the cook-off would have gone to benefit the Iowa Park Food Bank, which serves people in our community who can’t afford to feed their families. Their only source of monetary funding is donations, which are used to purchase commodities from the Area Food Bank to distribute locally.

And, I am asking that each of you to write a check to the food bank in exchange for not having to even consider SPAM at the Whoop-T-Do, much less eat it.

Last year, the cookoff raised a little over $1,500, which was able to serve our community well.

But it’s been a year, and your donations are needed to help this very worthy cause.
